-Don’t think your energy will withstand! The demands of taking care of a baby can be challenging. You have to find a way to sleep. Even if it is only for 20 minutes, take the time to shut your eyes. Tag team with your spouse for sleep time throughout the day and night.
-Your baby needs you healthy. Eat right and follow-up with the doctor to make sure your body is recovering properly.
-Invest in a HIGH QUALITY handheld vacuum or dust buster. You will need it for a quick clean of the car seat, carriage, play pen and high chair!
-Put wipes, burping towels, and pacifiers everywhere! In your diaper bag, purse, car…everywhere!
-Save time and combine your birth announcements with thank you notes.
-Babies R Us is not the only baby store! Shop and compare! For example, mygofer, Target, Marshall’s and Kmart have baby décor, baby equipment and great kid’s sections that can be much cheaper.
-Allow others to do favors for you. Cook, clean, errands, etc. Pass off jobs you are used to doing while friends and family are there. People will want to help so take them up on it!
-When you are ready, get out of the house and do something for you. Go for a walk or head out for a night with family, friends, or your spouse. You will need to recharge.
-Don’t forget about your partner. While most of the attention is going towards your new baby, remember to spend time with one another. As mentioned above, take a night out together even if it means hiring a babysitter for a couple of hours. It will not only do well for your relationship but for the life and growth of your baby.
New parenting is full of surprises that include unexpected challenges. Establish what works for you as parents and consider some of the tips above.
