As summer winds down and the kids count down the days until school, I’m anxious to plan a few special things for my boys to do this week. 

We’ve done our theme weeks, where we’ve not only enjoyed some special trips to the water park and the horse stables but also learned some important lessons on water conservation and recycling. 

Yesterday was my second time this summer at one of our local water parks.   It was also the second day where I witnessed multiple children needing to be saved by the lifeguards because they couldn’t get themselves to the side of the pool.

I love to run.  More importantly, I love how I feel after I’ve run.  I’m happy, energized, relaxed, patient, and much more pleasant to be around.

When I don’t get my run in on any given day, I feel pretty out of sorts.  So while I absolutely love having my boys home for the summer, I struggle to find the time for a full workout. 

It may be time to shop for back to school, but summer’s not down for the count yet!  There are still a few weeks left to enjoy some great outdoor activities.  Out of fun ideas?  Check out a few of our suggestions -

It’s hard to believe summer break is right around the corner.  I find I tend to have a different opinion than many other stay-at-home moms I know in regards to having the kids home for 3 months.  Most of them search to find multiple summer programs for their kids to attend in order to avoid having their own usual routine interrupted.   But I love when my kids are home with me.  I mean, they are the reason I gave up my career in the first place.  Yes, when they are in school I get into a groove of my own with the few hours I have alone each day, but before every school break, I commit to successfully creating and adopting a new schedule that will accommodate the three of us. 

In the dog days of summer, it’s hot to stay cool. While hanging out in he air conditioned house can relieve anyone for a short time, sometimes it’s just a bit more fun to get family and friends outside to soak up the heat. This summer, soak up the sun and stay cool at the same time with some of our helpful hints.

Oh, the dog days of summer!  Come July and August, we are all looking for some relief from the heat.  So, while you are sitting in the shade sipping iced tea, your dog may be panting away, trying to cool down. 

Dogs don’t sweat like we do.  Instead, they pant to help regulate their body temperature.  But that isn’t always enough.  Sometimes they need a little help from us to keep them cool, safe and healthy during the hot summer months.

Best of all, most of these tips don’t require you to buy expensive dog supplies!

Where you’re hosting a party or just need a cure for one of those “there’s nothing to do” days, outdoor games can be a lot of fun. 

I grill out a lot, and it takes some time to get the food ready and cooked. Guests enjoy sitting around and chatting, but it’s nice to have some outdoor games available for more active fun.

Hooray for summer!  Your children can finally move out of the basement and start playing more outdoors.  The days are longer and soon, with school getting out, they will have much more time on their hands.  This summer, keep your children busy, happy and out of the house with any one of these backyard toys that are guaranteed to be a hit!
