After a year, I finally finished assembling this. In reality, it probably was about 5 hours of assembly work but I just needed the motivation. It was missing one bolt which I just bought at ***** for like 50 cents rather than wait for customer service. Otherwise, all the parts were there. I don't know if it was intentional but they included two copies of the instruction manual. I found this quite useful to have one on the parts list and the other for the instructions. So if you don't get that, I strongly suggest copying those first few pages for easy reference to the parts. My one objection is that there are something like 10 different sizes of bolts and nuts and washers and some are pretty close. So I often had to refer to the diagram. If you can, maybe separate in the beginning into labeled plastic cups. That said, I got it assembled at attached. It worked like a champ. I moved 6 yards of top soil in about 3.5 hours. A lot of that time was just moving the tractor around. The bucket size worked fine. There isn't really much scooping motion so part of my loading technique was to essentially ram into the dirt pile to fill the scoop. That resulted in no issues at all (loose dirt). When lowered, the scoop nicely scraped the driveway. In all, I only ended up leaving maybe two or three cubic feet of dirt behind and part of that was just due to some sod pallets in my way. So I think it does a good job. I would rather it lifted a tad higher than 7 inches. It actually looks lower than 7 inches (I'll have to measure). But it wasn't really a big issue. When I dumped, I had to actually reverse to get the bucket to return to a position where I could pull the lever to lock it. It could have been my surface or just the design. Not a problem once I figured it out but just letting you know. I'm quite happy with the scoop and hope to use it for a long time.
I used this scoop extensively for the first time this weekend spreading a MOUNTAIN of gravel in our large pole barn. First, let me start by saying that I attempted to put off hooking up the scoop and doing it by hand. After a couple hours I realized it would take me months to spread it all. The hookup was pretty simple. We use our the DLS 3500 with a snowblower in the winter and the mounts aren't the same (so be prepared to have to swap every season). There are a couple points to using the scoop 1) Don't bite off more than you can chew. Chip away at a pile that way it doesn't overload your tractor making it heavy in the front. 2) Get comfortable with operation. This thing is by no means automatic. I'm still sore from operating the levers. One benefit of this is that there's no hydraulics or actuators to fail on you. 3) You need plenty of weight in the rear. Get a weight box and good tires. You'll still slip and probably get stuck once or twice but go slow and it will save you a lot of work. I ended up getting this on clearance for $100 at a local store. I don't know if I would pay $500+ for it but it is definitely a valuable accessory.
The scoop was difficult to assemble. Find the instruction videos online, and it will make it much easier. Overall, the quality is just ok. With the type of jobs I am using it for, I'm hoping it lasts. This is built more for hauling light materials more so than dirt. It has a tendency to shift around as well when hauling dirt, requiring constant adjustment. This happens regardless of how tight you make the bolts. One feature I wish the unit had was being able to lift the dump higher, so items could be loaded into a cart or wheelbarrow. It only lifts a few inches above the ground. If I had to do it over, I likely wouldn't buy this unit, but would opt for one of the higher end powered units.
You need to check nuts, bolts, and washers I was missing a few items
after re-assembly and mounting to the tractor then getting the final adjustments set it functions perfectly . Follow the assembly instructions carefully and mounting directions and it will perform well
Good for moving around small amounts of dirt, but just as quick to do it yourself and a wheelbarrow. Doesn't lift very high and makes the mower unstable. It's more a function of the mower already not very good at traction/tipping etc. Big, heavy thing to store when not in use
didn't have all the bolts and nuts and I'm going to have to get the weight to put in it because it wants to tip over - other than that I'm happy.
I've owned this scoop attachment for about 6 years, and it has worked great. After getting the adjustments right, it works as expected and more. It has been outside the whole six years and still looks new. I added a piece of chain on front, to keep bucket from tilting too far forward, and this scoop does good spreading and leveling the lawn soil, and makes as a good caddy to ferry lawn supplies around. I recommend wheel weights and chains to make this work better. Keeping the working parts and cables oiled, has helped it stay working for so long, without any other maintainance.
Used this item of and on for three years, finely parked it. Constantly adjusting the bucket lock. Unit is very hard to use the handles. Not enough ground clearance. Way over priced for the engineering involved. Small plastic grips will not stay on.
This scoop went back to Sears 4 days ago, attached to the not so good tractor I bought with it. I intend to purchase one of these again soon and attach it to my old, good unit. (Hopefully) I have no choice. There's nothing else out there but this one.
