KitchenAid 21.8 cu. ft. French-Door Refrigerator w/ Internal Water Dispenser

I installed this on my vacation home in Dominican Republic. It works wonderful and everyone loves it. So simple yet so functional. I was afraid of how it would blend in over there but it is just so perfect. It cools great and the humidity buttom works quickly and greatly.....

The upper door closing issues is without question. The design is pretty good buy it just does not work that well. We have to make sure the doors are closed or we will come back5 hours later only to find the alarm going off and the internat temp 55 degrees...happened twice. The noise is a clicking-buzzing-groning sound. Starts and stops at will any time...coming from the inside top center of the unit--touch the center piece with the louvers and you will feel a vibration. Sounds like it is the motor operated door that lets cold freezer air into the refrigerator side. The company should recall this and make it a consumer free manufacturer repair. Come on Kitchen Aid...this is why I got rid of my Kenmore! Tom -San Diego

We've had the fridge for a month now and are totally satisfied with the performance and look. Love the flat doors, water and ice dispensers on the inside, extremely quiet and the doors open and close fine unlike previously claimed. A lot of space! The only improvement I would suggest is stainless sides instead of painted gray.

Replaced a refrigerator of 25 years. This thing is awesome.

The doors do not close or open easily and even though there is only my husband and I in the house, no children, the doors are left partially open 3 to5 times a day and only discovered by the beep, beep signal the refrigerator gives.

The one door closes normally because it has an auto close. The other door, with the hinged seal, which is supposed to automatically fold in to seal the door does not close without a hard manual push.  And when you push it hard to close it, it creates a vacuum which opens the other side which you then have to reclose.  Otherwise, the one door closes with a normal touch but the other has to be physically pushed often leaving one side open.

I called Kitchen Aide service and they sent out a local service man who without even looking at or touching the unit said that there was nothing he could do, but he knew the problem existed because he had complaints on the doors from other customers. Also, that the freezer door does not always seal when pushed shut, a problem I have also had.

I called and emailed Kitchen Aid and their response was that it was the nature of the product to do this because it is energy efficient.  So they are aware of it but do not address it.  They refer to the malfunction as an asset to the refrigerator.

Other issues are poor design of the vegetable bins.  They are impossible to take out to clean because the french doors do not open wide enough to pull the drawer straight out.

Also, if you are buying this to flush into your cabinet space, be aware that it will still extend about 4 inches beyond the cabinets due to the design of the doors and back of the refrigerator.

I have had my Kitchen aid french door refrigerator for 18 months and I am totally happy with it. It keeps my frozen foods frozen and my refrigerated items cold. The various         drawers in both the refrigerator and the freezer allow for easy storage and retrival of food items.

This is our first stainless steele and french door fridge. We bought from an outlet at a discounted price with a savings from Energy Star, so an awsome deal! However, the fridge is smaller than my old one(side-by-side), as it doesn't hold large containers from leftover meals for a family of four. It stores basic food items just fine... The pull out drawer for deli meats, cheese and small 'bowl-like' containers is a life saver because of the space issue and my favorite feature. Also, it periodically makes a humming, buzzing sound when the doors are not closed flushed. I have to reclose and close again to get it to stop. Sometimes never stops and we have to ignore it. Other than that, we've been very happy with this refrigerator for the price.

This refrigerator has a very usable interior design. There is plenty of space in the refrigerator which is laid out well. There are two gallon size door bins and the deli locker is very spacious. The bottom door freezer has enough space for everyday use but not enough storage space for larger items. Having a stand alone freezer makes this issue irrelevant. My last KitchenAid refrigerator was still going strong at over 10 years, and I replaced that appliance with this new one largely because of the French-Door design. I would highly recommend this refrigerator!

We took delivery of this refrigerator on 10/10/09 as a replacement under our "protection agreement" for a G.E. Profile Arctica side-by-side with no ice and water dispenser from about 3 years ago whose ice maker and freezer never worked properly.  We wanted a acabinet depth refrigerator WITHOUT an ince idspenser in the door and since we have a small freezer in the garage, we wanted a refrig with greater capacity for fresh food (refrigerator) versus frozen (freezer).

We find this French door model to offer more space and much more usable space thn our similar sie side-by-side.  The ice maker has worked perfectly and we really enjoy the design of the ice bin.  The bin latches to the front of the freezer door (really the drawer front since the freezer pulls out).  You can unlatch the bin and remove it to take ice to the table to fill glasses, etc.  The filter prodeuces clear ice and water. BTW we are enjoying the cold water from the dispenser inside the refrig though we did not seek this feature.

Our refrigerator did not have the problem an earlier writer spoke of.  The stainless steel is fine --- even in comparison with our top-of-the-line G.E. which we had thought to be the best looking refrig ever.

We are finding this refrigerator to be quite quiet.  The real noise occurs only when the ince make is operting.

It is good looking, though I find the handles to be a bit bulky.  We had an existing cabinet to place this in and it just fits.  We had no problem with accuracy of measurements of unit.

We looked and looked before selecting this model and feel quite lucky with our choice.
