Quiet and smooth
My wife and I were able to assemble the bike very easily using my own hand tools. We did'nt try the tools that came with the bike. We were both impressed with the smoothness and how quiet it is. We both use it two times a day and have had no problems in the approximately one month we've owned it. The seat adjusts very easily. I'm 6'1' and my wife 5'3". We are both able to ride comfortably. We both appreciate the seat adjust lever as opposed to the screw adjust knobs used on some of the other type.

Defect in craftsmanship, big time!
I bought the bike in the begining of Jan 09. April 15th it died. It started making a horrible grinding sound. And uh-oh, it's beyond the 90 warranty. The cost to have a repair man look at this would exceed the cost of a new bike. So I looked into the problem myself. The magnetic fly wheel assembly looks a lot like a drum brake. The mechanism that moves the magnets inside the fly wheel is made of brittle plastic. The magnetic "brake shoes" were cracked in about 10 different places, and the magnets were falling off the backing plate and griding against the fly wheel. Simply put this thing was cracking and crumbling apart...seemingly at the molecular level. I really couldn't believe my eyes. Clearly the stress applied to these parts during normal use is greater than the plastics ability to resist that stress. The plastic parts are not up to the task. I'm very disappointed. I've barely had this bike 100 days and I'm already faced with buying parts for it.

ProForm XP 400R recumbent exercise bike

I purchased this bike because I had a total knee replacement and needed to do my physical therapy with it. The bike would not turn off and the batteries would run down. Then the control panel would continue lighting up. The control panel on this bike was a mess. I would not recommend this bike without them refixing the control panel. The bike itself is ok. But the problem is with the control panel. I would not recommend this bike for the money. Look for a different bike, maybe one without all the bells and whistles.

The proform recumbent bike is great for the money

Although not easy to put together (the instructions are a little lacking), this bike has been worry free. It is quiet and easy to operate. We wanted one that our daughter, who is under 5' tall, and my husband, who is 6'2", could both use. This one fits the bill. Great buy, spent just over $300 for it on sale.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Had my ProForm 400R for over 2 years, & love it.

I have had my ProForm 400R for over 2 years and have never had a problem with it.  I don't think the seat is all that comfortable but that's pretty much the only thing I don't like about it.  I use it at least 3 times a week.  Sometimes I use the workouts that are programmed into the bike itself but mostly I just ride it for about 45 minutes to an hour & push it as long as I can on the most difficult level.  It would be nice if it's hardest level was a little more difficult but it still isn't exactly easy.  I would recommend this bike to my friends.

Be VERY careful on this bike!

We have owned this bike for just over 18 months and use it over an hour a day 5-6 days per week.  Had a squeak that I could not stand or explain so I took the bike apart.  Turns out 1 (of 3) bolts that attach the frame to the rear pedestal had broken!  I'm about 170 lbs. and my wife is less so I don't think we overstressed the bike. Subsequent use the other 2 bolts snap on the whole thing collapses!  Fortunately I heard the snap and managed to get off before it crashed down.  My guess is that it is a design flaw but bottom-line -- if you own this bike be very careful!

This is a great ride!

I love this bike. I hurt my foot in March and found I have a flatfoot. Up until that time I was alternating riding my upright Schwinn exercise bike and walking five miles a day.

Through months of strenghtening my foot and finally breaking down and buying a custom-made orthotic I decided to try a recumbent bike again to strenghten my foot and knees. I had one years ago (can't remember the brand) but loved it then. My upright bike bothers my foot right now.

I have to say this is a good quality bike. It does not shake and is solid and quiet. I have used it for about 2 weeks now and found it to give me a good cardio workout. It is a lot less expensive than a Schwinn and does what it says it will do. You have to realize that these machines aren't going to give an accurate pulse rate, etc, even my Schwinn doesn't do that. I have also found that it has good resistance. I am using resistence 1 and it is tight.

I think this is an excellent product and is very affordable. I also love how the seat is adjusted like a car seat. I highly recommend this to anyone.

Overall
I like the workouts on the ProForm XP Recumbent Exercise Bike

I started out with the first three workouts since I'm certainly not what you call "in shape". At first, I could only burn 140 calories, according to the bike. However, I've been working my way up the other workouts and yesterday I did #8 -- there is indeed resistance on the bike. I managed to burn 171 calories -- a big difference. I think that if you want to set the resistance manually, you have to move the wheel slowly until it "clicks" in. Simply turning it doesn't seem to work, at least that has been my experience.

I would recommend this product to a friend.
